Is G2A legal?

YES (unsure about Japan)

G2A is a marketplace that works in the similar way as eBay. Is eBay legal? No questions about that. Do you need to go to dark web to browse their offer? No. What’s the difference between G2A and eBay from business operations perspective? None.

Is selling games on online marketplaces legal? Yes. eBay sells exactly the same products. It’s just less convenient and usually more expensive than G2A.

If that doesn’t persuade you… I’m not a lawyer, but I believe in common sense. G2A has tremendous number of enemies in the gaming industry. If there was a legal way G2A could be delegalized/closed, their opponents would make that happen in no time.

Also, G2A is strongly connected to the payments industry – they even have their own PayPal-like payment option, called Pay. If there was anything sketchy about their business model, all the biggest payment processors (Visa, Mastercard, PayPal etc.) would be long gone. In order to work with such big players, you have to undergo countless checks and audits, so if anything in their books would be suspicious, these checks would show it.

However there’s at least one market where G2A can be illegal: Japan. Some time ago media covered the story of Japan changing their policies regarding reselling game keys. I don’t know Japanese language, can’t verify that information.

If someone from Japan is reading it, please let me know, I’d be glad to update this article.
